Hidden Fields’ Folklore-Inspired Horror Survival Game Mundaun Now Available

Lovingly Hand-Pencilled Horror Adventure Transports Players to a Sinister Valley of the Swiss Alps on PC and Consoles

Mundaun, a folklore-inspired survival horror game from Hidden Fields, a one-man studio founded by Swiss programmer and illustrator Michel Ziegler, and publisher MWM Interactive, is now available worldwide. Featuring lovingly hand-pencilled elements sketched out by Ziegler, Mundaun tells the story of a young man who travels to a dark, secluded valley of the Swiss Alps to uncover the mystery of his grandfather’s death and face off with a malevolent entity that resides there. Mundaun is the first full-length game from Ziegler, as well as the debut title in MWMi’s portfolio as an independent games publisher, and is available for digital purchase on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

To celebrate Mundaun’s launch, Hidden Fields and MWMi have released a new trailer which can be viewed on YouTube here:

“It is surreal to finally be able to share Mundaun with players across the world. It has certainly been an emotional roller coaster working on the project for so many years,” said Hidden Fields founder and developer Michel Ziegler. “The Alps hold a special place in my heart, and I wanted to create an experience that embodies my summer trips as a child, while paying homage to the brilliant but dark folklore of the region. I am so thankful for the support of the team at MWMi who helped bring my vision to life, and I hope everyone enjoys playing Mundaun as much as I enjoyed making it.”

In Mundaun, players follow a young man named Curdin to Mundaun, an ominous valley in the Alps, to learn more about the mysterious circumstances behind his grandfather’s death. Along the way, he discovers that something diabolical is haunting the town’s residents and slowly unravels the secrets of Mundaun. Throughout their journey, players will solve intricate puzzles and learn more about the town, while avoiding sinister characters that trigger the game’s fear system, a “cause-and-effect” feature which disorients players when facing dangerous situations. The game has been a passion project for Ziegler since beginning development in 2014, and was inspired by Ziegler’s adoration of the rich history of myth and culture of the Swiss region of Grisons.

For a look at the development of Mundaun, Hidden Fields and MWMi have released a behind-the-scenes documentary, offering an in-depth look at Ziegler’s creative process and the real-life and folklore inspirations behind the game. The documentary can be viewed on the official MWMi YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XqOU0Pr6vQ

Mundaun captivated us from the first moment we saw it, and is inspiring on so many levels; we are proud for it to be the first game MWMi has published on our own,” said Ethan Stearns, executive vice president of MWM Interactive. “Mundaun deeply represents the kinds of games MWMi wants to elevate to larger audiences, made by developers who have this incredible artistic vision through storytelling, craftsmanship and innovation, and we are honored to have been a part of Michel’s journey to bring this game to the world.”

Mundaun is now available on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store for $19.99 USD (£15.49, 16,79€, CHF 19.50). Mundaun will be coming to Nintendo Switch in April 2021.
